Transparency Statement: Where Zee Feed Stands on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament

Zee Feed’s mission is to bring truly feminist values to Australia’s media landscape, and I am proud to publish some of the most thoughtful, progressive opinion writing for young women in this country. Australian media desperately needs to hear more from voices on the ‘political left’… which is why our editorial stance on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament might seem counterintuitive: all non-indigenous people, including me, should be doing far more listening than speaking.

We should be listening to First Nations voices on this topic, above all others. It’s quite literally in the name of the thing. Yes, No and others.

That’s why our POV on the Voice hub is a compilation of varied views, exclusively from First Nations people, that have been published elsewhere. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to find reasoning that resonates, regardless of where they live. We are doing this to bring clarity to voting on the Voice, not contributing to malicious confusion around it.

Having said that, I think it’s important to be transparent about our voting intentions. As a media outlet committed to doing things differently we ask readers to trust us and, in this instance, it’s not fair to ask for that trust without revealing your own intentions. Zee Feed’s official editorial stance is in support of the putting the Voice to Parliament into the constitution. I will personally be voting Yes on October 14th. I have arrived at this decision by listening to Indigenous people, especially those who are against it.

That is how you should decide too.
I hope our POV on the Voice resource makes it easier for you to do so.
